Over the past twenty
years, there has been a stark increase in the number of teenagers in Singapore becoming more sexually promiscous.
With the media becoming omnipresent in teenagers' lives, it is no doubt
that teenagers are getting subtlely influenced by themes highlighted in the media. Teenage attitudes towards sex has become
more open and they are now more casual in their perceptions to sex.
Media content exposed to teenagers today have shown an obvious increase
in the degree of sexual content in media. Teenagers in Singapore today have easy access to such media, in the
forms of television, movies, magazine and the Internet.
For example, studies have shown that in Singaporean teenagers, 1
in 5 has had sex in 2002. This is a big jump from the 3.4% recorded in 1999. Sexual content in the media has also increased, with
movies showing more explicit sexual content, Internet pornography is so easily accessible to everyone and magazines now encompass
many sexual themes in their content.
